Understanding Asian Wedding Traditions

Planning a wedding within a traditional Asian culture allows couples to celebrate their heritage and style as they get married.

It’s an exciting time filled with anticipation and meticulous attention to detail - which is vital if you want to get an event this big right! One aspect that can’t be forgotten amongst the venue choices, outfit decisions and food tasting is the choice of wedding car.

Asian weddings embrace a variety of cultures, including Sikh, Hindu, Pakistani, and more. Each tradition has its unique customs:

  •       •   Indian Weddings: Often involves multiple ceremonies and rituals often performed around "the sacred fire"

  •       •   Sikh Weddings: Feature the Baraat (Groom's Procession), where the groom's arrival is a grand affair with music and dancing.

  •       •   Hindu Weddings: Include different rituals that need comfortable travel between various venues and probably the most memorable of rituals, the breaking of the coconut by driving over it.

  •       •   Pakistani Weddings: Encompass various rituals and ceremonies from the Dholki (Musical gathering), the Baraat (Groom's procession) and the Walima (the reception)

All weddings are unique, and at Premier Carriage we understand the importance of the diverse traditions and formalities observed during an Asian wedding - whether it be Indian, Sikh, Hindu, Muslim, Chinese or other Asian cultures. As such, we are confident we can accommodate most cultural requests on your special day.

If you have any specific traditions that may involve the vehicle, please do inform us in advance so we can familiarise ourselves with your requirements before your big day. We’re more than happy to accommodate your needs.

What is meant by an ‘Asian wedding car’?

The term ‘Asian wedding cars’ does not mean the vehicle is built in Asia, but, rather, captures common themes of wedding cars that are popular amongst Asian weddings.

This includes a huge variety of different cultures and heritages - from Indian weddings through to East Asian celebrations, including Chinese, and Indo-pacific regions such as Filipino weddings.

There is, of course, no one size fits all approach to such a huge range of cultures, but Asian wedding cars celebrate style, romance, and elegance. They can be extravagant, in bold bright colours - perhaps often associated with American-made cars like the Cadillac Convertible - or beautiful British vintage cars, like an R-type Bentley.

Whether you prefer a traditional vintage vehicle or something more modern, hiring the perfect Asian wedding car will make your wedding even more memorable for yourself and your guests.

In the background, modern buildings and neon lights give an urban nighttime ambiance.

The Status of Asian Wedding Cars

In the Asian community, weddings are often very grand affairs celebrated by the entire family and community. In some traditions, guest lists can exceed 500 people. Therefore, Asian weddings can be longer and more elaborate than traditional British weddings.

The union of two families is just as significant as the joining together of the happy couple, making it crucial to ensure that close family members feel involved and special on this momentous day.

Hiring multiple wedding cars allows parents, in-laws, and siblings to travel in chauffeur-driven luxury, adding to the overall grandeur of the occasion.

Hiring multiple vehicles is more common in Asian wedding traditions, rather than typical Western weddings. Sometimes the couple will ride in an extravagant, vintage car to look spectacular in the wedding photos. Meanwhile, they will hire luxury cars with all the modern amenities - like air conditioning, leather seating and ample leg-room - for the family.

Who traditionally goes in the wedding cars for Asian weddings?

Who goes in the wedding cars is different amongst different Asian cultures, but it’s often important that the close family of the bride and groom get to travel in the wedding cars. The wedding is as much about the joining of the families as the marriage of the couple themselves.

The bride's family is likely to go to the venue with the bride, and the groom’s family with the groom. For travel to a second venue after the ceremony - the couple will usually travel together with close family following in separate cars.

However, there are different traditions within different Asian cultures. For example, in some Indian weddings, the groom will have a Baraat procession. For modern weddings, this might look like a luxurious sports car or fully-decked out Rolls-Royce. Depending on the size of the family and budget, he might be followed by additional hire cars with his family.
